Western Springs Man Tried Hiding Masturbating With Beige Cloth, Cops Say

A Western Springs man was arrested after a shopper reported him masturbating in his car in the TJ Maxx parking lot, reports said.

Downers Grove police arrived at the store at 7349 Lemont Road around 1:34 p.m. Aug. 19.

According to the report, the caller reported seeing a man later identified as John Doughtery, 56, sitting inside his 2006 Acura parked near a handicapped space. As she walked past the car, she noticed Doughtery’s hand “moving in a fast motion.”

Police said that Doughtery used a beige-colored cloth to conceal his act, but the caller stated “it was obvious he was masturbating.”

When officers approached the 2006 Acura, Doughtery attempted to leave when he saw police, reports said.

Officers found a beige cloth inside Doughtery’s car, police said. He was taken into custody and charged with public indecency.

Doughtery was released on his own recognizance with a court date to be determined.

The beige cloth was entered into evidence, reports said.
