Western Springs Ranked As Safest Town In Illinois

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs ranked number one in a new study of the safest cities in Illinois from the National Council for Home Safety and Security. Western Springs ranked No. 1 out of 206 cities on the list, followed by Channahon and Campton Hills.

Western Springs has a population of 13,446 and 0 violent crimes, according to the study. It had 35 property crimes, and 2.6 property crimes per 1,000 people.

Illinois' 50 Safest Towns: 2018 Rankings

Illinois has fewer per capita property crimes than most states but more violent crimes, according to the rankings. Its violent crime rate made it the 35th-safest state in the U.S., when adjusted for population, but it has the 18th lowest rate of property crimes.

Chicago was ranked 195th out of 206 Illinois cities, with a rate of more than 11 violent crimes and nearly 32 property crimes per 1,000 people.

The five least-safe towns on the list were Springfield, Rockford, East St. Louis, Mount Vernon, Lansing and Danville.
