Western Springs Resident Wins National Merit Scholarship

A Western Springs resident was chosen as a winner of a National Merit Scholarship for $2,500.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — 2,500 high school seniors have won this year's National Merit $2,500 Scholarship award. According to the organization, the winners were chosen from more than 15,000 finalists. Among the winners is one Western Springs resident, Alia Abiad.

Abiad is a student at St. Ignatius College Preparatory School in Chicago. Abiad has a probable career field in Medicine.

According to the organization, National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state's percentage of the
nation's graduating high school seniors.
