Western Springs Sees 75 More Virus Cases: County

The local mortality rate is less than 1 percent.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs has seen a 14 percent increase in coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. That is slightly higher than the 13 percent hikes the village experienced in each of the two previous weeks.

As of Sunday, the village had seen 625 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 75 from a week before. The number of those who have recovered from the virus is unavailable.

The number of Western Springs' virus-related deaths has increased by one, for a total of four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 46.8 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 40.4 in La Grange Park, 44.2 in Darien, 45.6 in Hinsdale, 52.1 in Elmhurst, 52.3 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 56.9 in suburban Cook County, 57.1 in Burr Ridge and 62.7 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 787,573, up 9.2 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 13,255 state residents.

Nationally, 14.5 million people have caught the virus, up 10 percent from the week before. A total of 280,135 people have died from the virus in the United States.
