Western Springs Sees Smaller Hike In Virus Cases: County
The number of coronavirus-related deaths remains the same in the village.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw its smallest percentage increase in coronavirus cases in weeks, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, the village had 672 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic. That's up by 47 cases from the week before, or an 8 percent increase. Each of the last three weeks, Western Springs had experienced increases of about 13 percent.
The number of Western Springs' virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 50.3 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 43.7 in La Grange Park, 48.6 in Darien, 50.1 in Hinsdale, 56.3 in Clarendon Hills, 57.2 in Elmhurst, 57.4 in DuPage County, 61.8 in suburban Cook County, 62.5 in Burr Ridge and 67.9 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 848,904, up 7.8 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 14,291 state residents.
Nationally, 15.9 million people have caught the virus, up 10 percent from the week before. A total of 296,818 people have died from the virus in the United States.
