Western Springs Sees Smaller Virus Caseload Hike

Village's last death from the coronavirus was in mid-July, the county says.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs experienced a smaller increase in coronavirus cases than it has seen in the last three weeks, according to Cook County Public Health Department. As of Sunday, the village recorded a 7 percent weekly hike in virus cases, lower than the 12 percent the week before. The number of deaths remained at two, with the second death reported in mid-July, county numbers show.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 15.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 12.9 in Darien, 13.8 in La Grange Park, 16.1 in Elmhurst, 16.7 in Clarendon Hills, 17.3 in DuPage County, 20.5 in Hinsdale, 22.4 in Burr Ridge and suburban Cook County, and 22.7 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 261,371, up 4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,309 state residents.

Nationally, 6.5 million people have caught the virus, up 3 percent from the week before. A total of 193,195 people have died from the virus in the United States.
