Western Springs Takes On The Trends; Earns Design Award
White kitchen incorporates current trends while maintaining a timeless look.
The demand for white kitchens remains strong among homeowners, but equally strong is the desire for these newly remodeled kitchens to maintain an up-to-date look for many years. Creating a white kitchen that capitalizes on the benefits of today’s trends without risking a dated look in a few short years can be a challenge, one that Normandy Remodeling Designer Leslie Molloy, CKD successfully met in a recent renovation. Molloy was able to incorporate many of today’s in-demand trends to create a kitchen that fits the home and family without compromising a timeless quality; earning this kitchen a Remodeling Excellence Award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) of Greater Chicagoland.
Some of the key trends spotted in this kitchen include a grey and white color scheme, marble backsplash, engineered countertops that are maintenance free, a large island for entertaining, open shelving, LED lighting, and homeowner driven unique selections.
Cookie-cutter kitchens are on the decline, and highly personal selections that are interesting to the homeowner have taken their place. “In this kitchen, the focus on geometry shines through,” commented Molloy. “You can find it in the angular island shape, the triangular shape of the backsplash tile, the emphasis on the square angles for the floating shelves, and even down to the round mirrored tile insets for the backsplash tile.”

Thoughtful details elevate this kitchen from ‘just another white kitchen’ into something that has personality and fits this family to a T. The way in which each of these elements were incorporated allowed the homeowners to take advantage of their favorite trends, but were included in more subtle and classic ways that should allow the look of the space to remain relevant for many years.
This Western Springs kitchen remodel was one of 13 renovations to receive a Remodeling Excellence Award. Winners were evaluated by an impartial panel of judges, comprised of industry experts. The judging criteria included problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation and degree of difficulty.
