Western Springs Virus Caseload Up Nearly A Third
Village's situation remains better than its neighbors, figures show.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Over the last week, Western Springs saw its biggest percentage increase in coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. As of Sunday, the village had 20 new cases over the previous week, reaching 83, according to Cook County Public Health Department numbers. That's an increase of nearly a third.
Even with the spike, Western Springs remains in better shape than its neighbors. The village has seen one death as the result of the coronavirus, county figures show. That's far below the 13 deaths in neighboring La Grange since the pandemic started.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 6.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people. That compares to 6.8 in Darien, 7 in Clarendon Hills, 7.4 in La Grange Park, 8.6 in Elmhurst, 10.5 in DuPage County, 10.9 in Burr Ridge, 12.5 in Hinsdale, 14.8 in La Grange and 15.2 in suburban Cook County.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 153,916, up 4.5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,187 state residents.
