Western Springs Virus Caseload Picks Up
Village's situation compares well with nearby suburbs.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw its biggest weekly rate of increase in coronavirus cases in more than a month. As of Sunday, Western Springs had 33 virus cases, up from 24 a week earlier, according to Cook County figures. But the village's situation is considerably better than nearby suburbs.

As of Sunday, Western Springs' number works out to 2.5 cases per thousand, which compares well to nearby towns — 4 in Clarendon Hills, 4.1 in Elmhurst, 4.3 in Darien, 4.6 in La Grange Park, 6.4 in DuPage County, 9.4 in La Grange and 9.6 in Hinsdale.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 94,191, up 21 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 4,177 state residents. Health departments do not provide the number of deaths by municipality.
Nationally, 1.5 million people have caught the virus, and 89,923 have died from it.
