Western Springs Virus Cases Up 24% In Week: Health Agency
Since the pandemic's beginning, three residents have died from the coronavirus.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — The total number of coronavirus cases in Western Springs since the pandemic's beginning rose 26 percent in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. That's higher than the 18 percent weekly increase statewide.
As of Sunday, the village had 430 coronavirus cases, up by 89 from a week before. The number of those who have recovered from the virus is unavailable.
The number of deaths stands at three, with the last one reported on Halloween. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 32.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 27.1 in La Grange Park, 30.2 in Darien, 34.1 in Hinsdale, 34.3 in Clarendon Hills, 35.7 in Elmhurst, 36.1 in DuPage County, 41.2 in suburban Cook County, 41.9 in Burr Ridge and 43.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 573,6156, up 17.5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 10,742 state residents.
Nationally, 10.8 million people have caught the virus, up 11 percent from the week before. A total of 244,810 people have died from the virus in the United States.
