Western Springs Virus Cases Rise 15% In Last Week: County

The village's percentage increase is considerably more than the previous week's.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw a 15 percent increase in coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. That compares to a 17 percent hike statewide, up from the previous week's 6 percent.

As of Sunday, the village had 341 coronavirus cases, up by 44 from a week before. The number of those who have recovered from the virus is unavailable.

The number of deaths stands at three, with the last one reported on Halloween. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 25.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 22.6 in La Grange Park, 24.4 in Darien, 29.6 in Clarendon Hills, 30.3 in Hinsdale, 30.4 in Elmhurst, 30.6 in DuPage County, 34.6 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands), 35 in suburban Cook County and 36 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 487,987, up 17 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 10,196 state residents.

Nationally, 9.8 million people have caught the virus, up 8 percent from the week before. A total of 236,547 people have died from the virus in the United States.
