Western Springs Virus Figure Now Worse Than La Grange Park's
Village sees its biggest increase in coronavirus cases since mid-July.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — For the second week in a row, Western Springs experienced its biggest increase in coronavirus cases since mid-July. As of Sunday, the village's cases numbered 190, a 12 percent increase from a week earlier, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. The number of deaths remained at two.
In the last week, Western Springs slipped one position in the number of virus cases per capita among nearby towns surveyed by Patch, with La Grange Park moving past Western Springs.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 14.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people, with both Darien and La Grange Park in better positions. The figures are 12.2 in Darien, 13.4 in La Grange Park, 15.3 in Elmhurst, 16.5 in Clarendon Hills, 16.6 in DuPage County, 19.1 in Hinsdale, 21.5 in Burr Ridge, 21.6 in suburban Cook County and 21.8 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 250,961, up 8 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,179 state residents.

Nationally, 6.2 million people have caught the virus, up 7 percent from the week before. A total of 188,513 people have died from the virus in the United States.
