Write a Safety Slogan, Wave as You Drive By it on the Tollway

The winning message in each category will be displayed on overhead message signs along the 286-mile tollway system.

Think you could write a better safety slogan than β€œSave a Life, Buckle Up?” Are you more concisely eloquent than β€œU Drink, U Drive, U Lose?”

The Illinois Tollway is giving the public a chance to see their punchy prose in lights above the 286-mile tollway system, as long as those words warn against impaired driving, distracted driving and not wearing seatbelts.

We know what you might be thinking, but messages containing profanity or lewd content will be disqualified.

Entries can be up to three lines of text, with each line comprised of no more than 21 characters, including spaces. Punctuation is allowed but not required.

The deadline to submit messages is March 27, and people may submit more than one message.

The tollway will post the most creative, eye-catching messages on its website, and the public can vote for favorites between April 8 and 16. Winners will be announced the week of April 20.

The winning messages will be displayed through the remainder of 2015 in rotation on 37 overhead electronic road signs along the tollway system.

β€œWe are asking everyone to help us make our roads safer by creating messages that remind our customers to drive responsibly,” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur in a statement. β€œThese are serious and sometimes deadly problems, but we can help solve them by working together.”
