Bid for Former La Grange YMCA Site Up For Vote
YMCA officials to vote on bid to redevelop the former Rich Port YMCA site in La Grange, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Officials of the YMCA of Metro Chicago will vote Tuesday on a recommendation to accept a bid that's somewhereΒ "in the neighborhood of $9 million,"Β to redevelop the site of the former YMCAΒ in La Grange,Β theΒ Chicago TribuneΒ reports.
Three years after demolishing the Rich Port YMCA, theΒ YMCA of Metro ChicagoΒ startedΒ seeking proposals to re-develop the former site over theΒ summer.
The proposal on the table today, one of nine bids submitted for the 4.3-acre site,Β would bring a mixed-use development to the corner of Ogden Avenue and La Grange Road, including housing, retail space and parking, but no YMCA,Β according to theΒ Tribune.Β

The property, located at 31 E. Ogden Ave., would ideally include a new facility for the YMCA, according to a news release send in July.Β The YMCA was seeking developers with "creative options for a mixed-use development."Β
For more than 10 years, the YMCA of Metro Chicago has been working with the La Grange community to develop potential sources of capital to build a new, permanent facility.Β

In 2006, the YMCA decided it would be more feasible to build a new facility than renovate the old building. The plans stalled because of the economy, and the building was demolished in 2010.Β
