York Takes Down LT Soccer Again in Playoff
Furious second half surge by Dukes push them past the Lady Lions in sectionals.
Top-seeded Lyons Township was looking to put the third seeded York Dukes away for the right to advance to super sectionals at Lisle. But the Lady Lions fell short as their smothering defense and smart counterattack faded in the second half, losing 2-1.
Senior Coco Corrigan put the Lady Lions up early in the first half. At the seven-minute mark, she scored off a rebound right in front of Dukes keeper Anna Bell Landsdowne. The Lady Lions defense was stellar during the first half as junior Sarah Mazur played inspired.
She chased down York attackers all game, snuffing out early scoring chances for the Dukes. Junior keeper Maggie Orlowski also had a strong game as she made key saves on the rare occasion that a Duke defender made it through in the first half.

With about four minutes remaining in the first half York turned up the heat and was finding moderate success. They generated two late scoring chances in the closing minutes of the first half.
They kept it up in the second half, keeping tempo and slowly dominating the time possesion battle. York's Ellie Ordonez found the back of the net seven minutes into the half, tying the game up at 1-1.

York didn't let up and the Lady Lions could not muster up a counter to the Dukes' furious attack.
At the 32' minute mark of the second half, York unleashed a direct attack on Maggie Orlowski and York's Mary Kate Cicinelli found the back of the net off a rebound from the kick by Abbey Wilkins, putting York up 2-1.
It proved to be the game winner as LT fought back fiercly but could not score as Landsdowne made a key save with shortly under two minutes left, snuffing out LT's hopes for a comeback.
York will continue play Wednedsay at super-sectionals in Lisle.
