12-Year-Old Girl Shot Dead On Chicago's West Side
The shooting happened in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A 12-year-old girl was fatally shot Thursday on the city's West Side, police said. The shooting happened in the 4200 block of West Wilcox just before 11:30 p.m. in West Garfield Park, according to police. A 36-year-old man was wounded in the shooting, police said.
The two victims were outside a gathering, when shots were fired. The man was shot in the leg, police said. The girl was struck in the neck, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The man's condition had stabilized.
The girl was visiting from Michigan, and was returning from a graduation party when she was shot, according to a report by ABC 7.

Her family has identified her as She'Nyah O'Flynn, according to the report. They said she was holding her baby cousin in her arms when she was shot, ABC 7 reported.
Witnesses said they saw two men firing shots in the area, and that the two victims were not the intended targets, according to the report.

No one was in custody. Area North detectives are investigating.
