1st African-American Elected as West Central Mayors Group President

(Broadview, IL) – Village of Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson was elected last week as the president of the West Central Municipal Conference, becoming the first African-American mayor to serve as the head of the 40-year-old organization, which represents 40 municipalities.
Thompson’s election was announced during the organization’s annual dinner at the Stephen Convention Center in Rosemont on September 23.
Thompson, who had served as group’s vice president, succeeds Elmwood Park Mayor Angelo “Skip” Saviano.

“My election to the presidency of the West Central Municipal Conference should be a lesson to all young leaders from minority communities,” said Thompson. “Hard work, team work, and straight talk are leadership values that are recognized and appreciated by your peers, and they reward you for it.”
First elected as Broadview’s mayor in 2017, Thompson is the village’s first female Black mayor.

The West Central Municipal Conference was founded in 1980 as a regional council of governments for west suburban Cook County.
