2 Boys Killed, Toddler Critically Injured In West Side Fire

The deadly fire engulfed an apartment building in Humboldt Park, officials said.

CHICAGO, IL — Two boys, ages 3 and 8, died after an apartment fire Saturday morning in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, fire officials said. Four others, including a toddler, were critically injured, according to the Chicago Fire Department. The fire broke out in an apartment building in the 1000 block of North Avers, officials said.

Emergency responders arrived on scene at around 1:50 a.m. Six people were inside the building, and two people were rescued by firefighters, officials said.

The 3-year-old boy was taken to Norwegian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said. The 8-year-old boy was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he also died, authorities said.

An 18-month-old boy was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, officials said. Two women, ages 23 and 25, were also taken to Stroger Hospital, and a 25-year-old man was taken to Loyola Medical Center, according to authorities.
