3 Firefighters Hurt During 'Mayday' Call On West Side
One Chicago firefighter was briefly unaccounted for while units battled an afternoon fire at a home in the Austin neighborhood.
CHICAGO, IL - Three firefighters suffered minor burns and one was temporarily unaccounted for while units battled a structure fire at a building in the 4800 block of West Van Buren Street in the city's Austin neighborhood Monday afternoon. The Chicago Fire Department's Media Twitter account issued a "Mayday" alert after responding to the blaze around noon.
There were no critical injuries to firefighters, who were all treated at the scene, according to officials. Two firefighters were transferred to Stroger Hospital and one to West Suburban Hospital, all with minor burns.
An additional patient was transported and treated at Loretto Hospital.

The fire was described as a 2-11 alarm still and box.
One of the firefighters who responded was "out of touch" for a few moments but later accounted for.
