3 Girls Among 6 Shot On West Side

The girls, ages 5, 14 and 15, were caught in gang crossfire Sunday night, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — Six people were shot on the West Side Sunday night, including three girls, police said. The shooting happened in the 3400 block of West Walnut Street in East Garfield Park around 9:54 p.m., according to police. The shots were fired from a black sedan, police said.

The girls, ages 5, 14 and 15, were sitting in a parked car with their mother when the shots were fired, according to police. They were not the intended targets of the shooting, police said. The sedan then headed north on Homan Avenue, police said.

The 5-year-old girl was struck in the arm, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, police said. The 14-year-old was struck in the chest, abdomen and arm and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The 15-year-old girl was shot in the thigh and taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in good condition.

Three other people were also shot — a 17-year-old boy, a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, police said. All three were documented gang members, according to police. The boy was struck in the foot and the man was shot in the arm — both were taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The woman was shot in the chest and arm and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said.

No one was in custody. Area North detectives are investigating.
