(Broadview, IL) – The Village of Broadview’s acting top cop has decided to retire.

Pointing to 25-years of service with the Broadview Police Department in a July 23 retirement letter to the town’s mayor, Interim Police Chief Kevin Wagner announced that his last day will be August 6, 2021.

“It has been an honor to serve with the exceptional members of this Department since 1996 and especially as their Chief,” Wagner wrote to Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson. “It is because of their dedication, professionalism and relationship with the community that I truly believe the Broadview Police Department is one of the best police departments in Cook County.”

Wagner has been serving as interim chief since February 3, 2021 when then Police Chief Kevin Eugling announced his own retirement.

Thompson thanked Wagner for his “years” on the job.

“I thank the interim chief for his many years on the job and wish him well in the future,” said Thompson.

An official search process has been underway for several months to identify a permanent police chief to run the 37-officer department.

The starting salary for the Broadview police chief is $135,000.
