(Broadview, IL) — Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson has signed a proclamation declaring October 7, 2026, "A Day of Remembrance" in the Village of Broadview, honoring the victims of the October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel.
"By recognizing October 7 as a Day of Remembrance, we honor the victims, express our compassion for all those affected, and affirm that antisemitism, hatred, or discrimination against Jewish people has no place in our community," Thompson said. "We also reject hatred and discrimination against all people, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or background. Every person deserves to live with dignity, safety, and respect."
The mayor announced the proclamation during the Monday, October 5, regular meeting of the Village Board of Trustees, on the eve of the attacks' third anniversary.
The mayor said the observance carries a responsibility that extends beyond a single day.
"Acknowledging this day recognizes the humanity of those who suffered. It reminds us of our responsibility to challenge hatred, protect one another's dignity, and teach future generations the importance of compassion," Mayor Thompson said. "As we remember, let us reaffirm our commitment everyday to love, kindness, and respect for all people."
Broadview joins mayors and municipalities across the country that have marked the anniversary with proclamations honoring the victims and standing against antisemitism.
