Cops Kill Bank Robber on Southwest Side (UPDATE)

An armed confrontation at 49th and Karlov left one man dead.

CHICAGO, IL - Chicago police shot and killed a man who robbed a bank on the city's Southwest Side on Monday.

Police said in a statement Monday afternoon that an "armed confrontation" erupted after they were called to the area in reference to a bank robbery in the 4900 block of S. Karlov in the Archer Heights neighborhood around 11:30 a.m.

The police department is working with the FBI in the investigation into the bank robbery. The city's Independent Police Review Authority will investigate the police-involved shooting.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.
