Blind Man Shot, Killed On West Side: Report

All that was left at the scene of the shooting was the victim's support cane and jacket, according to a report.

CHICAGO, IL — A blind man was shot and killed in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood Tuesday night, according to a report. The drive-by shooting happened in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt Road around 9:30 p.m., police said. A suspect inside the vehicle fired shots, and the man was hit in the back, according to police.

The 50-year-old victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The victim's family identified the man as Johnny Shanklin, and said he was an innocent bystander, according to a report by ABC 7.

"He was innocent. He was blind. What kind of trouble can he get into? He was blind," Audrey Brown, the victim's sister-in-law, told ABC 7.
