(Broadview, IL) – The Village of Broadview’s aim to create a bicycle and pedestrian corridor that would stretch through multiple municipal neighbors has won support from a top regional planning organization.

The Chicago Metropolitan Planning Agency notified Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson on Thursday, January 12, that the village’s application to the agency for support of its project had been approved.

“I am pleased to inform you that your application was successful, and CMAP would like to partner with Broadview to complete a multi-jurisdiction bicycle and pedestrian plan along with the Village of Bellwood, Village of Westchester, Village of Berkley, and the Village of Hillside,” wrote Chicago Metropolitan Planning Agency Deputy of Planning Stephane Phifer. “Congratulations on submitting a successful project!”

The agency will provide Broadview and its municipal partners “invaluable technical assistance” in the development of the group’s strategic planning process.

“Out of 64 total applicants, Broadview was among those chosen for invaluable technical assistance from the Chicago Metropolitan Planning Agency,” said Thompson, who is an avid cyclist. “We are deeply grateful for their support, and we are ready to get to work on a bicycle and pedestrian corridor plan in collaboration with our neighbors Bellwood, Berkeley, Hillside, and Westchester.”
