Broadview Celebrates Supportive Housing Week with Free Community Block Party

(Broadview, IL) – The Village of Broadview is partnering with Housing Forward to celebrate Supportive Housing Week with a free Community Block Party at Schroeder Park on August 28 for residents and families in the Village of Broadview and the surrounding communities.

“This event is really about bringing our community together—not only to enjoy a fun evening, but to make connections and ensure residents know about the resources available right here in our community,” said Mayor Katrina Thompson. “More than 35 local nonprofits and community organizations will provide information and resources on things like free childhood immunizations, CountyCare enrollment, voter registration, back-to-school support, mental health, senior care, and other community services.”

Free food, music, giveaways, and activities for all ages will be available, including:

•Free food from Chicago’s Chicken Shack and Just Like Mama’s Catering

•A live DJ

•Two bounce houses

•Face painting

•A balloon artist

•Touch-a-Truck experience

•A special performance by Maywood Fine Arts

•A free raffle with prizes

“This is a great opportunity to come together, have some fun, and connect with resources that can support individuals and families as we head into the fall,” said Thompson.

The Village of Broadview’s collaboration with Housing Forward’s supportive housing mission rests on Thompson’s fundamental commitment to building a healthy community through housing.

“I have consistently and successfully championed the belief that housing is foundational to building strong families and strong communities,” said Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson. “For example, my administration, in collaboration with Housing Forward, worked to successfully develop the Broadview Legacy Apartments in 2024, which offers 16 apartments tailored to individuals and families exiting homelessness, including dedicated accommodations for veterans, transition-age youth, and families.”

Additionally, Thompson noted that under her watch, the Broadview Senior Apartments were completed in 2022. The complex, a three-story, multifamily, affordable housing development, provides 70 one- and two-bedroom units of housing for seniors and veterans.

“The Broadview Senior Apartments project also reflects my commitment to the needs and dignity of those who have devoted their lives to raising families, working hard, and contributing to the community,” said Thompson.
