Burglar Stabs Dog To Death, Then Falls Asleep In West Side Home
A homeowner returned his home to find his dog fatally stabbed, and a burglar sleeping in his bed, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A burglar stabbed and killed a dog on the city's West Side Wednesday night, according to police. The break-in happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 2300 block of West Maypole Avenue in West Town, police said. When police were called to the home, officers said they found the intruder inside.
Police said the man broke in through a second-floor window. The pit bull confronted the intruder, so he stabbed her, police said.
The man stayed inside the home after killing the dog, and fell asleep, according to police.

The homeowner returned to find his dog dead, and the intruder sleeping on an upstairs bed in shorts and loafers.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the homeowner, Joseph Sneed, had his dog Carmela since she was a puppy. She was 12 years old.

"It hurts," Sneed told the Tribune.
The man was taken into custody, and charges were pending.
