Chicago Cops Use Heimlich Maneuver To Save Choking Infant

This isn't the first time the 2 officers have been praised for their life-saving actions.

CHICAGO, IL — Two Chicago police officer used the Heimlich maneuver to save the life of a 9-month-old West Side girl last week, according to CBS 2 Chicago.

The child's family called 911 after the girl swallowed a dollhouse toy, the report stated. Blood was coming out of the girl's nose when Officers Paul Moreno and David Watson arrived at the family's West Side home, the report added.

The officers performed the Heimlich maneuver on the girl, and the infant was taken to a nearby hospital, the report stated. One of the girl's family members was even driven to the hospital by the officers, the report added.

“And [the officers] went in with [the family member], went up to the room where she was," the girl's grandmother told CBS 2 Chicago. "He said the officers were talking to her, calling her Princess and telling her, ‘You’re going to be OK, sorry you’re going through this.’ It was so compassionate. It was hard to believe, you know? They really did save her life."

This isn't the first time Moreno and Watson have been lauded for their life-saving actions. In October of last year, the officers used a belt as makeshift tourniquet to save a 16-year-old boy who was severely bleeding from a gunshoot wound to his leg in the Austin neighborhood.
