Concealed Carry Owner Shot And Killed While Parking Car

A 33-year-old man returned fire on a group of offenders, but died while trying to park his car in a garage on the West Side.

CHICAGO, IL - A Concealed Carry permit holder was shot and killed while he was in his own driveway in Chicago's West Humboldt Park neighborhood early Sunday morning. The victim in the incident reported in the 800 block of North Keystone Avenue has been identified as 33-year-old Tyrell E. Smith.

Smith sustained a gunshot wound to the head around 1:54 a.m., according to Chicago police. He was pronounced at the scene, which was originally reported as the 4000 block of West Iowa.

Police said Smith was parking his car in a garage when he was approached by a group of offenders who blocked his vehicle and fired multiple shots. The victim was able to return fire, but all offenders were able to flee the scene.

The manner of death has been ruled a homicide, the Cook County Medical Examiner said. No one is in custody.
