Cop Shoots Driver Speeding Toward Officers On West Side: Police
Police wounded the driver of an SUV as it sped toward officers in the Lawndale neighborhood, the CPD said.

CHICAGO — Police shot and wounded the driver of an SUV who accelerated toward officers Wednesday on the West Side, according to the Chicago Police Department. The driver was shot around 11:20 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Roosevelt Road in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said.
Officers saw an SUV that matched the description of a vehicle wanted in an earlier shooting, police said.
As the officers walked up to the SUV, police said the driver sped up, hitting a squad car and a fence. An officer then shot at the driver, hitting the offender in the wrist.

The driver was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he was stabilized. No other injuries were reported.
Police did not release the gender or age of the driver; however family said the person who was shot was a 16-year-old boy, according to NBC Chicago.

The officer will be placed on administrative duties for 30 days, as is routine in police shootings, while the Civilian Office of Police Accountability investigates.
