Couple's Dog Dies After Saving Woman in House Fire
Chicago firefighters found the pet next to the woman's husband inside the burning home Wednesday. Both were pronounced dead later.

CHICAGO, IL — A woman was saved from her burning home near Midway Airport after her dog woke her up Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, the canine and the woman's husband did not survive the blaze that started next to holiday decorations, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The fire began around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in a single-story home in the 5700 block of West 63rd Place, the report stated. At the time, the sleeping couple and the dog were the only ones in the house, the report added.
Once the fire broke out, the dog woke up the couple, and the woman escaped the burning structure, the report stated. Chicago firefighters, however, found her husband and their dog lying unresponsive next to one another on a floor inside the house, the report added.

The Chicago Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire, and officials are looking at the large amount of electrical wiring around a Christmas display in the house, the Tribune reports.
