Gang Members Arrested in Historic CPD Takedown
A Chicago Police Department mission resulted in the arrest of 95 gang members, one of the largest takedowns the city has ever seen.

CHICAGO, IL - Chicago police recently completed one of the largest drug and violence stings in the city's history and came up with 140 arrests, most of which were of documented gang members.
The Chicago Police Department announced the results of the mission on Friday. 95 of the offenders arrested were documented gang members and 83 received charges related to selling narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school.
Eighty four percent of the arrests were of offenders already listed on the department's Strategic Subject List, an algorithm the department uses "to calculate the propensity of an individual to be a victim of gun violence."

“Chicago police officers and detectives have been engaged in a significant operation to disrupt organized gang activity that has had our communities in a stranglehold for far too long,” said Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. "These initiatives send a clear message to anyone who contributes to the sources of violence in Chicago: you will be subject to the full weight of the Department and our partners in law enforcement. Put simply, violence this summer will not be tolerated."
Twenty three weapons were recovered as part of the investigation.
