(Broadview, IL) – A Village of Broadview police officer is being hailed as a “hero” by the town’s mayor after the officer’s “quick and decisive” action last week helped save a resident’s severely cut hand.

Officer Neil McMahon, an 8-year veteran of the west suburban Cook County community, responded to an incident in Broadview on July 12 at the home of Fidel Morales who had lacerated his hand at the wrist and was hemorrhaging blood. Acting before paramedics arrived, McMahon fashioned a makeshift torniquet to staunch the bleeding before having the victim transported to a nearby hospital.

“Medical personnel at Loyola University Medical Center advised the department that Officer McMahon's quick and decisive actions saved the man's hand,” said Broadview Acting Police Chief Kevin Wagner.
