Man Accused Of Robberies, Sex Assault In West Town

A 22-year-old man has been identified as the person who assaulted a woman in a gangway off North Leavitt, police said.

CHICAGO — A man has been arrested after a string of armed robberies and a sexual assault in West Town, police said. Six armed robberies were reported in the neighborhood last week, according to police.

In one of the robberies, a woman was walking to work Thursday morning the 500 block of North Leavitt Street, and she told the armed man she didn't have any money, police said. He then forced her into a gangway, ordered her to take off her clothes and searched her purse for condoms, police said. Prosecutors said he then fondled her and fled after she began screaming, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.

Dennis Jackson, 22, of the Lawndale neighborhood, faces felony counts of armed robbery, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
