Man Killed, Wife Critically Injured In Apartment Fire On NW Side

The fire broke out in a five-story apartment in the Dunning neighborhood, fire officials said.

CHICAGO — An elderly man died and his wife were critically injured in a fire on Chicago's Northwest Side Wednesday morning, fire officials said. The fire broke out in a five-story apartment building in the Dunning neighborhood, the Chicago Fire Department said.

Firefighters were called to the 6400 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue around 4 a.m. The elderly husband and wife were on the fifth floor, where the fire broke out, fire officials said.

The couple was taken to area hospitals, and the man later died, fire officials said. The woman's condition was stabilized.

No other injuries were reported. About 20 residents were displaced by the fire.

The Chicago Fire Department was investigating the cause of the fire.
