Man Shot By Cop During Home Invasion On Near West Side: Police

Another person was shot by an offender, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago police officer shot a man Wednesday evening on the Near West Side, police said. The man was shot in the 2000 block of West Washington Boulevard around 6:30 p.m., according to police. Officers were responding to reports of a home invasion, police said.

When the officers arrived, they heard a gunshot coming from inside a home, police said. An offender shot a 23-year-old woman in the arm in an apparent home invasion, police said.

The 19-year-old offender was then shot in the abdomen by an officer after an "armed encounter," police said.

Police said the woman and the suspect didn't appear to know each other.

Both people were taken to Stroger Hospital, officials said. The 23-year-old woman was in serious condition, and the 19-year-old man's condition stabilized, officials said.

The officer will be placed on desk duty, as is protocol, while the Civilian Office of Police Accountability investigates the shooting.
