Man Shot By Police On West Side

The man was shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.

CHICAGO — Chicago police shot a man on the West Side after a confrontation Wednesday afternoon, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. The man was shot in the 600 block of North Central Park Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of North Lawndale, near Laura Ward school, officials said. A woman in the area reported that a man in a black jacket and red hoodie shot at her car.

Officers went after the gunman and a confrontation led to the officer shooting the man in the abdomen, police said.

The man was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition, officials said.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.
