Man on Tracks Stops Pink, Green Line CTA Service for About 5 Hours

A Chicago police negotiator and a SWAT team were called in to help resolve the situation early Tuesday near the Morgan station.

CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago police SWAT team was called in to help remove a man who was walking on CTA tracks early Tuesday morning near the Morgan station in the West Town neighborhood, disrupting service on the Pink and Green lines for about five hours, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police received a report of an unidentified man on the tracks around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, and a police negotiator was dispatched, the report stated. As a safety precaution, emergency crew also inflated a crash pad beneath the Lake Street tracks, between Aberdeen and Carpenter streets, the report added.

Eventually, the man jumped from the high, above-ground tracks onto the crash pad below, the report stated. Police took him into custody, and although he appeared unhurt, the man was taken to Stroger Hospital as a precaution, the report added.
