Man Who Shot at Chicago Cops Faces Attempted Murder Charges: Police

The University Village shooting is the 6th time in less than 2 weeks gunfire has been directed at Chicago police officers.

CHICAGO, IL — A University Village man accused of shooting at officers early Thursday near the University of Illinois-Chicago campus faces attempted murder charges, according to Chicago police.

Marco Dipaolo, 22, of the 1000 block of West Taylor Street, was arrested Thursday and charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, as well as single counts of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, misdemeanor aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor possession of a firearm without a valid permit.

According to police, Dipaolo allegedly fired on officers at about 2:05 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, in the 800 block of South Miller Street. The shots damaged nearby property, but no one was injured during the shooting, police said.

Dipaolo allegedly resisted arrest, but he was finally taken into custody by police. A live round of ammunition and a gun also were recovered from the scene, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The shooting Thursday is the sixth incident that involved Chicago police officers being fired upon in less than two weeks.
