Luis Mercader, a Chicago chef, was missing for a week.

CHICAGO, IL — A chef from Chicago's West Loop neighborhood was found safe, according to police. The Chicago Police Department released a brief statement Thursday morning, which said Luis Mercader, a chef at Roister, "has been safely located." Police released no further details.

Mercader, 25, was missing for a week, and his family and friends reached out to several media organizations and posted flyers in the West Loop, hoping to find information leading to his whereabouts.

His family and friends said they became worried after Mercader failed to show up to a benefit event for victims of Hurricane Maria Nov. 9 at Animale.
