More Than 2,700 Without Power On West Side: ComEd

UPDATED: Damaged power lines caused an outage Wednesday in Austin Village, and crews are investigating the cause of one in the West Loop.

CHICAGO, IL — More than 2,700 ComEd customers are without power Wednesday afternoon on the West Side, according to the electricity carrier.

An outage in the Austin Village neighborhood is affecting nearly 2,200 customers, and one in the West Loop has more than 600 customers without power, according to ComEd's power outage map. The power company is blaming downed power lines for the West Loop outage.

The largest outage in Austin Village affects customers along Augusta Street, between North Austin Boulevard and North Ridgeland Avenue. Smaller outages also are scattered throughout the neighborhood.

Crews are fixing the cause of the outages, and power is expected to be restored between 2:15 and 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, in both areas, according to ComEd's website.

The power company warned customers that Wednesday's strong winds could damage electrical lines or bring make them touch tree limbs, which can cause dimming. A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday for much of the Chicago area.
