Plastic Bag Put Over Girl's Head In Kidnapping Attempt: Cops

The girl was playing outside Sunday afternoon on the West Side when the attempted abduction happened, Chicago police say.

CHICAGO, IL — A man is accused of putting a bag over the head of a girl during an attempted kidnapping Sunday afternoon on the West Side, acording to Chicago police. The girl was playing on the sidewalk near West Jackson Boulevard and South Lockwood Street in the South Austin neighborhood at around 3:35 p.m. when the attempted abduction happened, police said in an alert.

An unidentified man approached the girl after she fell off the bicycle she had been riding. He then allegedly put a plastic bag over the child's head, according to police. Scared, the girl began kicking the man, who fled on foot east on Jackson and then south on Lockwood, police said.

The girl ran to the home where her mother was and told her what had happened. The mother called 911 to report the incident. The mother and daughter had been visiting relatives at the time, and the girl was unfamilar with the West Side neighbhorhood, police said.

  • a bald African-American man with a medium build
  • 5 feet, 5 inches tall
  • about 40 years old
  • a heart tattoo on his neck

The suspect was wearing a brown, long-sleeve shirt, black pants and blue low-top gym shoes during the incident, according to police.
