Gun Found at West Side School; Student Taken Into Custody

UPDATED: West Town Academy was locked down Thursday afternoon after police received a report of a student with a firearm.

CHICAGO, IL — Charges are pending against a student after Chicago police found a gun Thursday afternoon at a West Side school, WGN-TV reports.

West Town Academy, in the 500 block of North Sacramento Avenue, was placed in a lockdown Thursday after police received a call of a student with a firearm, according to reports. During the lockdown, officers searched lockers and school grounds, ABC7 Chicago reports.

Police discovered the gun during the search, and a student was taken into custody, WGN reports. No one was injured during the incident, and the lockdown was lifted, the report added.
