Police Warn Of Attempted Child Abduction On West Side

An 8-year-old girl was grabbed from behind in the Hanson Park neighborhood, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — Police have issued a community alert warning of an attempted child abduction on Chicago's West Side. Police said the incident happened in the 2300 block of N. Long Avenue around 4 p.m. on Thursday. The victim didn't know the suspect, police said.

An 8-year-old girl was standing on Long Avenue when a man went up and pulled her backpack from behind, police said. The girl screamed and ran to her friends, and the man walked away, according to police.

The offender is described as a white-Hispanic man in his 20s, around 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall, weighing 150 to 180 pounds, with a medium brown complexion and a mustache, police said. He wearing a gray hoodie, a gray hat and blue jeans, police said.
