Volunteers Repair, Revamp Elderly Man's Home On West Side

Around two dozen construction professionals came together to repair the home of an 80-year-old Austin resident.

CHICAGO, IL — Skilled volunteers came together for National Rebuilding Day on Saturday to make a difference in their community. Carpenters, plumbers, electricians and other professionals used their talents — free of charge — to help an 80-year-old man living in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. The team revamped and repaired the man's home so he could live safely and securely.

The group Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago partnered with the Chicagoland Associated General Contractors to make the event happen. Anthony Alleman, project executive for Pepper Construction Company in Chicago, helped to organize the event and oversee the repair work.

"This was a collaborative effort involving nearly 25 volunteers from the CAGC, over half a dozen union plumbers, electricians, and carpenters, and board and staff of Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago," Alleman said. "Everyone worked tirelessly from early this morning to late in the afternoon to make critical repairs to this individual's home free of charge. It is truly what charity is about."
