BROADVIEW, IL — The Village of Broadview Board of Trustees on Monday, April 20, voted unanimously, 6-0, to adopt the village’s fiscal year 2027 budget, a $22,365,222 spending plan that includes a $43,320 surplus and represents a 10.4% increase over the previous year’s budget.

The new budget maintains core village services and continues Broadview’s longstanding commitment to its youth summer employment program, while accounting for rising costs in public safety, employee health care, and general operations.

“I’m proud to say that this is a responsible budget, one that reflects realities we face. We’re committed to maintaining excellence and the services we provide every single day,” said Mayor Katrina Thompson.

Thompson noted that the budget increase reflects broader cost pressures facing municipalities across the region as the federal government’s Midway Blitz immigration operation that placed Broadview in the crosshairs due to the ICE processing center’s location in the village.

“Now, let’s be honest, we saw increases across the board over time and fire and police as a result of President Trump’s brutal Midway Blitz immigration assault last fall, as well as rising health care costs for our employees and the general cost of just doing business,” Thompson said. “But even in the face of that, we remain committed to keeping our promise to our young people.”

Among the programs preserved in the FY2027 budget is the village’s summer youth employment initiative, which provides paid work opportunities for Broadview residents ages 14 and 15.

“For the past four years, we have created summer job opportunities for our youth, employing 14- and 15-year-olds right here in our village, and this new budget allows us to continue that program,” Thompson said. “Our summer job program is an investment in our future, and we’re going to continue to do that together. I’m grateful for it all.”

The FY2027 budget takes effect at the start of the new fiscal year, May 1, 2026. Copies of the adopted budget are available for public review at Village Hall and on the village’s official website.
