West Side Fire Injures 2 People: Fire Department

UPDATED: A fire broke out in a single-story restaurant Tuesday afternoon in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood.

CHICAGO, IL — Smoke from a single-story fire on the West Side has injured two people Tuesday, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The fire broke out in a Heart of Chicago restaurant in the 2000 block of West Cermak Road and was reported by the department at about 12:29 p.m. The damage to the building was widespread, and it took hours for crews to clean up the scene, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Fire department officials said a woman who suffered smoke inhalation from the blaze was listed in serious condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, the Tribune reports.
