1 Car Stolen, Another's Steering Column Tampered With In Wheaton: Cops

Police say the incidents took place less than a block from one another.

WHEATON, IL — Wheaton police recently responded to reports of a car theft and a car burglary in which the vehicle's steering columned was damaged.

The incidents took place in the 200 and 300 blocks of President Street between May 9 and May 10.3

Police were called to the College Avenue train station, 303 N. President St., around 3 a.m. on May 10 for a report of a stolen car. The victim told police they parked their car in the train station lot around 9 a.m. on May 9. When they returned, they noticed the car had been stolen.

On May 10, police were contacted by a resident in the 200 block of President Street who said they had been the victim of a car burglary. According to a police report, someone got into the victim's car, "broke the steering column, manipulated the ignition and ransacked the vehicle."
