Three teens have been cited after police said they drained nearly 60,000 gallons of water from a fountain in Carol Stream’s Ross Ferraro Town Center, the Daily Herald reports.

The teens, who are all under the age of 17, are accused of wading into the fountain on July 3 and turning a valve that drained the fountain of its water, according to the newspaper. The water flowed underground and into ponds and village officials are determining how much it will cost to refill the fountain.

Meanwhile, police do not believe the teen’s actions were meant to be malicious.

“They didn’t really know the repercussions of (turning the valve),” Deputy Chief John Jungers told the Daily Herald.
