American Creed: Community Conversations

Wheaton Public Library Hosts Important Discussion About the History and Current State of Our Democracy

Thanks to a grant from the American Library Association, the Wheaton Public Library is proud to offer a screening of the timely PBS documentary, American Creed, and hold a community conversation addressing the themes of the film.

Featuring renowned historian David M. Kennedy and his Stanford University colleague, former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, American Creed explores different kinds of civic activism through respectful dialogue, while fully acknowledging differences in political outlook. The film and our discussion will address such questions as:

Who gets to define our democratic ideals, or the American Creed"? Who get to define "we the people"? How are ideals interpreted in different communities with different histories? How can we make a difference in our immediate community?
